Suikoden VI Issues

Here are some issues about suikoden 6. This reason is the main cause about suikoden 6 confrontation.

1. They are trying to save the franchise- They took their time with Suikoden 4 waiting over 2 years and the game sucked. Suikoden 5 was pushed out a year later and though the game was better, the game sales were worse. I think the team is realizing that the series will die if Suikoden 6 does not become a big seller. It could go the way of the Lufia or Breath Of Fire Series which are great but don't seem to be having any new installments. You look at the sales of all the games and it is surprising that Suikoden 4 was the highest nationwide seller. It is of my opinion that if Suikoden 6 sales are at the level of Suikoden 5 or worse then this series, to my dismay, will die.

2. They are trying to deal with the PS3 Hardware- According to the creative team behind Heavenly Sword the PS3 Hardware was an "initial nightmare" which may explain why Suikoden 6 is sitting in development. The PS2 was not the easiest hardware to use but the PS3 is said to force programmers to almost use 1.5 times the code in their games.

3. They are trying to work a deal out with Microsoft to get the game on their console- Microsoft needs a Japanese RPG franchise and since there is no chance they can get Final Fantasy, why not try a top 10 franchise like Suikoden? The Xbox 360 could really use this to play towards the RPG gamer because if you look at the stats, the system with the most RPG's always sells better worldwide. If Microsoft is smart they should be trying to make Suikoden 6 an X-box exclusive.

4. They want all 108 characters to have voices- This is the "movie" theory, give every character a voice and make the cut scenes longer. It may work but will cost a ton to do. If they are doing this it will take forever to get all the recordings and them put them into the game.

5. They want to make the game twice as long as Suikoden 5- This is a real shot in the dark but I think they want to make this a game that will take 100 hours to beat without doing the sidequests. I feel that a really long game could get a lot of press (Especially if it is much longer than the "long games".) Why do I call this a shot in the dark? Because Konami doesn't exactly have the best marketing department and they would never think of that.

6. They want to make this the prettiest game in RPG history- They could be taking the Final Fantasy 7 approach and trying to become the definitive graphics advancement on a new hardware. If that is so then expect the game to take a very long time to come out. They may be aiming towards the "casual" gamer who can be drawn in by the graphics. Still I wonder how much better graphics in games can get. The graphics are already at a peak and I cannot see them getting much better.

7. They are trying to get production rights to Fumi Ishikawa's character drawings- If Suikoden 6 wants to use characters from Suikoden 2 and help promote Suikoden 1&2 for the PSP they may need the production rights to Fumi's characters. Fumi Ishikawa did the drawings for Suikoden 2 and some for Suikoden 3 and if they want to have the next one feature them they may need the production rights.
